FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Q: My date display says it is the 32nd of the month! What’s going on?
A: Most large date watches will require you to advance through 32, 33, 34..00, 01 at the end of each month. Simply unscrew the crown and move it through the cycle. Note that you should not advance the date mechanism between 11pm and midnight (i.e. as the display begins to cycle) - this can harm the mechanism.  Our new Benthic Ti features a special date mechanism that correctly cycles at the end of the month.

Q: How long will it take for my watch to be repaired?
A: It can take 2 weeks up to 4 months depending on the problem. We will let you know by email as soon as your watch is ready.

Q: Can you scratch off the Black PVD coating?
A: Yes, on hard objects such as stone or concrete it is possible to remove the coating. Some view it as a sign of manliness. However in most day-to-day wear we have found the coating to hold up very well - even beyond out own expectations. For example, in seven months of constant hard wear, we see only the very faintest signs of scratching on the buckle, and none on the case.
However if the idea of scratching off the coating at some point down the road really bothers you, we made the silver PVD to address this concern.

Q: Why does it look like you have used standard foam pipe insulation as a wristlet for your package?
A: OK you busted us. In order to use the Pelican® cases we needed to find something to hold the watch during shipping, and found that the Armacell pipe insulation fit the bill. We just have to hope the one Home Depot on Kauai keeps it in stock.

Q: What is the status of the Damascus Steel watch?
A: The first prototype is in case production - We hope to have it ready for Baselworld 2009.

Q: Is the Bathys Warranty Transferable?
A: No, our 2-year warranty only applies to the original owner.

Q: Do you offer a steel bracelet for your timepieces?
A: Yes, we are currently in production of a solid end link custom steel bracelet for our 100 Fathom Line (100 F quartz, 100F auto, @ Aquaculture). The will be offered in 316L stainless steel and also black PVD over 316L. If you'd like to be put on the pre-order list, please send an email to [email protected]

Q: Do you recommend hand-winding the automatic watches you sell?
A: No, a simple gentle shake of the watch begins the winding process and it will begin to run at rate almost immediately. Hand winding can be OK if done gently, but we suggest not doing so as it places undue stress on the delicate winding train - these gears are designed to be wound by the rotor, not fingers.
